for our 10th release, we have compiled a double-vinyl package featuring various artists who hail from our hometown of toronto. with music from veteran and new names in equal measure, the collection is as diverse as the city’s influences. the common thread throughout — and the ethos of our label — is dance music with a future-facing bent.

lab personnel is a very intriguing collaboration between a number of producers hailing from croatia. members include zarkoff (member of sumerian fleet), neon lies, ikonal many more (total eight members). the tracks were recorded during synth lab 4 improvisational sessions in pisak in 2017. the album is a dense and stormy affair overall with mesmerizing and dark synths. the styles presented drift between genres including acid techno, electro, ebm, and other hybrids. all instrumental, the lp is a brooding journey into diverse techno soundscapes with eight strong tracks that will not disappoint.

amsterdam-based artist and format-label honcho juan sanchez himself delivers a quartet of tracks carrying his signature sound for the label’s thirteenth release. never one to settle for the ordinary, juan sanchez’ latest outing follows a more conceptual approach to techno. each track adds its own flavor to the mix, with the ep as a whole being a combination of dubby and dancefloor-fused material. synth and bass arps, stripped grooves and driving drums are the main ingredients of juan’s sound, all of which come together across this ep’s four-track canvas. the result is a balanced mix of both dubby and dancefloor-tinged techno laced with experimental twists and turns. with his new release, juan adds another quality slice of techno to the format roster.

kim ann foxmans firehouse imprint storms into 2018 with an extra special re-release of the 1994 rave classic scott richmond and john selway aka psychedlic research lab, keep on climbin.the package features both original mixes alongside two outstanding remixes from deetron and kim ann foxman. mix 1 and mix 2 sound as glorious now as they did when they were released. mix 1, a bold, breakbeat construct, chopped vocal and emerging acid lines. mix 2 places four to the floor. it’s deeper with added percussion, soft chord stabs and an almighty breakdown to the drop. deetron makes his debut on firehouse with a tough, grinding version, underpinned by his signature, gnarling bassline sound. kim ann foxman incorporates acid lines to her revision. it builds intensely from start to finish, using angela johnsons iconic vocal loop to perfection.

daniel schwerdel aka acid lab has been a familiar face on lossless music and dope plates over the last few years. turning heads with his tracks “ancestors” and “tundra”, dan has laid the ground work for a bigger project, a solo album. “a matter of time” is a stunning 10 track breakbeat odyssey which sees dan draw on influences from the past as well as futuristic visions which combine to form a body of work that perfectly fits the dope plates ethos. pressing on black & clear mixed vinyl.

taking melodies from various sources, the artist built the record with a common orientation contrasted by various asperities for each track. merging electronic strengths with complex aspects of original instruments, the record might be taken as a contrast that would satisfy both dancers and musical seekers with the objective to keep the mr godot risin.

superb unreleased 80s ambient cassettes remastered ! robert scott pearsons musiccan be seen as surrealist, impressionist, post industrial, mystical or avant-garde, but it goes beyond categories. his work embraces software, philosophy, poetry, visual arts, and generative algorithmic creation in general. at an early age, he began to experiment in this field, and released his first music privately on cassette, being part of the 80s underground industrial scene in seattle. post-industrial, futuristic, but not really nihilistic, his beautiful music melts expressive synth leads with arpeggios soundscapes, and drum machines flashes and lights, to take us in another reality.
